HOTEL AND RESTAURANT BUSINESS IN IVANO-FRANKIVSK REGION THROUGH THE PRISM OF HISTORICAL EXCURSUS AND IN THE PROJECTION OF DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS
Abstract
The article, based on a wide range of sources including archival materials (funds of the State Archive of Ivano-Frankivsk region), highlights the state of the hotel and restaurant business in the Ivano-Frankivsk region through the prism of a historical excursus (1970s - 1980s), under current conditions, and in the projection of prospects for further development. It is noted that in the conditions of modern human development, tourism has become a global factor in the progress of civilization, and tourism in Ukraine, particularly the hotel and restaurant business associated with it, is a product of long historical development. It is proven that the development of the tourism sector in the Ivano-Frankivsk region in the 1970s - 1980s is a vivid page in the history of domestic tourism: under the conditions of the totalitarian Soviet regime, a "closed" society, ideological dictate, and stagnant phenomena in the socio-economic sphere, it experienced unprecedented development due to a number of objective and subjective factors. The modern experience of hotel and restaurant business development in the Ivano-Frankivsk region is analyzed, deepening and clarifying the understanding of the content, mechanisms, achievements, and gaps in the development of tourism and excursion business not only on a regional scale but also throughout Ukraine. The conclusion is made about the gradual increase in the number of hotel establishments in the Ivano-Frankivsk region since 2006. The largest number of hotel industry enterprises are located in Ivano-Frankivsk and Yaremche (accounting for 37.1% of the total), with 43 business entities related to the hotel industry operating in the Ivano-Frankivsk city council area alone (27 hotels, 7 motels, 9 hostels). A number of internal and external problems that negatively affect the dynamics of hotel and restaurant business development in the Ivano-Frankivsk region are highlighted. It is emphasized that the prerequisites for its modern development were laid in the past century. The enterprises of the hospitality industry in the Carpathian region are interesting, educational, promising, and investment-attractive for recreationists.
